Among them, 12-inch products have a large market share, close to 2/3 of the overall market; in addition, 8-inch products also have a large market share, occupying more than 1/4 of the market share; while the sizes are smaller (6 inches and below) ) product market demand is relatively small.

There is a large supply gap for large-size silicon wafers in China, and the monopoly pattern of foreign companies is obvious.

From the perspective of the domestic market, currently Dongtang Mainland silicon wafer suppliers mainly produce silicon wafers of 6 inches and below. 4-6 inch silicon wafers can basically meet the demand, but there is a huge market gap for large-size silicon wafers.

According to data from the Dongtang Electronic Materials Industry Association, the annual growth rate of domestic demand for 8-inch silicon wafers has stabilized at around 10% in recent years. The domestic demand for the whole year of 2016 was 8.04 million wafers, and the demand in 2018 is expected to be 810,000 wafers/month. about.

Currently, only a few foreign-invested manufacturers in the Tang factory are capable of producing 8-inch silicon wafers. The total production capacity is 233,000 wafers/month, leaving a market gap of about 577,000 wafers/month.

In addition, although Dongtang's current demand for 12-inch silicon wafers is as high as 500,000 pieces per month, Dongtang does not have the mass production capacity for 12-inch silicon wafers and needs to rely entirely on imports.

Zhang Rujing once predicted that the monthly demand for 12-inch silicon wafers is expected to exceed 1.25 million wafers after 2020, and the market supply gap may further expand in the future.

This is also the reason why he previously strongly advocated the development of 12-inch wafer fabs in Dongtang.

In fact, from a global perspective, the production capacity and market for large-size silicon wafers have been basically monopolized by Sunland, Hans, Colliers and Dongtang Guodongdao District companies.

If Dongdao District and Dongtang Kingdom are of the same mind, it would be easy to say. The problem is that their relationship with Dongtang Kingdom is very tense. In this way, Dongdao's production capacity and technology cannot be counted as Dongtang Kingdom.

Taking the 12-inch silicon wafer market as an example, the overall market competition pattern of semiconductor silicon wafers is basically consistent.

However, the market share of the five major suppliers, Shin-Etsu, SGC, Global Wafer, Silitronic and LG, is higher, reaching 98%; at the same time, the market share of Global Wafer in Dongdao District has decreased.

It can be seen that the supply of large-size silicon wafers is mainly monopolized by foreign companies. It is crucial to independently control large-size silicon wafers, and domestic substitution is the general trend.

In 2017, Dongtang's integrated circuit import volume reached 377 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%; the import value was US$260.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%, accounting for 14.1% of Dongtang's total import volume. It can be seen that Dongtang's integrated circuits are exported to the outside world. Dependence is very serious.

In addition, the China-Singapore Communications Incident in 2016 raised the topic of independent controllability of the integrated circuit industry to a new level, and silicon wafers, as the upstream of the industry, are expected to benefit.

In fact, as early as 2014, Dongtang established the "Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Technology and Complete Set of Processes" project, known as the "02 Special Project", which includes a large silicon wafer industrialization project to concentrate on conquering the 12-inch silicon wafer volume. At present, there are at least nine large silicon wafer projects in China, with a total investment scale of more than 55 billion yuan, and the monthly production capacity of 12-inch silicon wafers under planning has exceeded 1.4 million pieces.

In addition, possible new production capacities in the future include: Yiswei and Core Dynamic Energy signed a letter of intent to cooperate with Xi'an High-tech Zone, and will invest tens of billions to establish a silicon material industry base to break the monopoly of 12-inch silicon wafers; Baoli GCL released electronic-grade polysilicon products, and wants to enter the integrated circuit silicon material industry.

But now they don't have to do it, because Neutron Star Materials Company is fully engaged in production, which can not only satisfy the Dongtang market, but also export.

Anyway, domestic silicon wafer companies are half-dead. Huang Haojie is already preparing to completely kill the silicon wafer business of Shin-Etsu, Seng Gao, Global Wafer, Silitronic and LG. At least they will not make a dime in the Dongtang market.
